Having healthier looking skin can be the key to confidence, but it’s often hard to attain.
With all the different parts of life that can potentially age your skin, it can feel like an uphill battle. The good news is that if you’re serious about getting healthier, better-looking skin, there are several steps you can take to get yourself on track.
How to Get Younger, Healthier Looking Skin
Use sunscreen every day
It may seem unnecessary to use sunscreen every day, but the sun can do serious damage to your skin. Over 90% of notable changes associated with aging skin are caused by sun exposure, according to the Skin Care Foundation. The sun limits your body’s ability to create healthy new skin cells. Even on cloudy days, your skin can still be affected by UV rays. Wearing sunscreen, or SPF makeup, every day (yes, even during the winter) can help protect your skin from unproportionate signs of aging.
Check your stress
Stress plays a large role in how your body operates, and not in a good way. Undue stress can adversely affect your skin and can cause breakouts and blemishes. Dermatologist Lisa Donofrio claims that stress inhibits your skin’s ability to resist the bacteria that causes acne, and high-stress situations all but negate it. So if you can avoid stressful situations, or find a way to mitigate your stress, your skin will thank you for it.
Exfoliate often
Exfoliation is a great way to clean out your pores and dead skin cells and reveal a healthy layer of beautiful skin. Use natural products that can gently remove the dead skin cells, or use steam. Steam is not only a great exfoliation technique but it also helps moisturize your face. You should be exfoliating two to four times a week depending on your need.
Limit your dairy
Even though it can be difficult, limiting your dairy intake can help reduce acne breakouts. A study conducted by the Harvard School of Public Health found that girls who drank a lot of milk were 30% more likely to develop acne than those who drank less milk. If your dairy intake is moderate to high and you don’t usually suffer from breakouts then you may not need to cut down at all. Limiting your dairy consumption also probably won’t help by itself but could be helpful in conjunction with other methods.
Beautiful skin can be difficult to achieve, but with proper routines and natural products, it can be done. Talk to your dermatologist for helpful hints and tricks to get glowing, younger-looking skin.
