I’ve always been fascinated with photography. Being able to tell a story with a photo is a pretty amazing thing. I recently got the chance to interview Matthew David Parker; a fantastic photographer based in LA. Let’s jump right into it.
Meet Matthew David Parker
Do you have any formal training?
I do. In fact, I attended one of the most prestigious photography schools in all of Europe, the Vevey School of Photography in Switzerland. While attending Vevey School of Photography, I got to experience the magical talent of all of their professors who helped guide me to become who I am today. Unlike other schools of photography, Vevey allows you to discover the many techniques involved in photography. Besides photography, I also learned electronic media.
What are the top 3 cameras that you prefer to use?
The top 3 cameras that I prefer to use are the Canon EOS 7D Mark II, Canon EOS 5DS, and the Canon EOS-1DX Mark II. Here is why. The Canon EOS 7D Mark II has retained many of its predecessor’s features and upgraded its sensor from 18 MP to 20.2 MP to allow a higher sensitivity of an images’ reduced noise. It also gives me an increase of 10 fps shooting capability.
The Canon EOS 5DS gives me high resolution through its use of the 50.6-megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor. This allows me to take beautiful photos that are beyond vibrant by using the Time Release Lag together with the mirror control simultaneously. This helps to reduce vibration while using the mirror lock-up to take photos.
Lastly, the Canon EOS-1DX Mark II allows me to take up to 170 images for every blast when using its CFast card and gives me a 14fps standard burst rate and a 16fps live view burst rate.
Are there aspects of your job that you like (or dislike) the most?
Just like any other job out there, there are many aspects of a job that employees both like and dislike. But for me, I don’t think there is anything that I don’t like about my job. I think the most that I like about my job as a photographer is that I get to work independently, be outdoors, and never have to see the same thing day in and day out.
What Are The Skills That Are Most Important For A Position In This Field?
The most important skill that a photographer requires is to take the most fabulous shot possible. This means you need to know your camera thoroughly, understand how to use lighting, and choosing an angle that will make the shot perfect. The other skills like Editing, marketing skills, and people skills will all come naturally to you.
What Are Your Other Hobbies?
My other hobbies include cooking and creating new recipes to share. I am also a constant learner. I love learning new things, so I am able to intertwine this hobby with my photography job very well.
This was fun! I would love to turn my love for photography into something more one day. You can connect with Matthew David Parker on his website and Twitter.
