Fun little fact, it’s been reported that mid-September is the most birthday-packed time of the year! Which means, right around this time you are probably being invited to one or more baby shower party! I’ve personally only been to two baby showers, and both time I recall not having a clue on what gift to buy. I’ve done some research for you, and I’ve rounded up a list of practical baby shower gifts for the new parents out there!
Practical Baby Shower Gifts For New Parents | Philips Avent Natural Baby Bottles
This post is in collaboration with Philips Avent and PTPA. All opinions are my own
When it comes to baby shower gift ideas, I like to be practical. Sure, a cute toy is a nice gesture, but I’d much rather give a gift that mom and dad can put to use immediately.
A tip for you: Check if the soon to be parents have a baby registry set up. This makes shopping for a gift so much easier because mom and dad already know what they want. Some baby registries even offer the option to buy the gift and ship it directly to the new parents. No baby registry? No worries, the list that I’ve rounded up are items that most (if not all) parents will be able to use for their little bundle of joy.
Diapers & wipes
Seriously, I think I went through a box of diapers every two days those first couples of months. I use at least a box of wipes per week. Trust me; new parents will need these two items, aplenty! And don’t feel shy about asking the parents which diaper & wipes brand they prefer! For the diapers, you can buy different sizes as well.
A baby monitor
Confession, those first months of bringing my daughter home, I was a hot mess! I had major anxiety about leaving her alone. I even took her to the bathroom with me a couple of times while I showered. When Jazzy was about 2, I got a baby monitor to help promote independent play, and it’s been a HUGE help! A baby will help ease the anxiety new parents often feel about leaving their baby alone.
Gift cards
Not sure what to get them and no baby registry? A gift card is a great place to go. Parents can grab what they’re missing or need for the baby. I would suggest getting parents gift cards for groceries, meal delivery services, pharmacy, and other places that will be useful.
Baby Bottles
Whether the baby will be exclusively breastfed or not, the Philips Avent Natural Baby Bottles are just right!

My sister-in-law just found out that she’s pregnant with twins after years of trying to get pregnant. She’s very excited and my wife is hoping to throw her a fun and practical baby shower. I love your point about how you prefer to give a gift that can be used right away. We’ll want to do something similar since they’ll need all of the basics like diapers, bottles, wipes, etc. Maybe I could find a cool gift basket or something.
