It’s no secret that for married couples, the honeymoon is intended to be one of the most luxurious and romantic vacations you’ll ever take together. At least four out of 10 travelers feel more romantic on vacation, but your first time traveling as a married couple should truly be special and unlike any other excursion.
Of course, when it comes to vacationing, timing is everything, especially if you’re hoping for tropical weather all week long. If you’re planning a spring honeymoon, in particular, keep in mind that there are many places experiencing some of their rainiest seasons of the year, while others are picturesque as can be. Here are a few destinations to keep in mind if you’re planning on a spring honeymoon.
Planning A Spring Honeymoon? Here Are Some Picturesque Destinations To Consider
Jamaica
Jamaica is undoubtedly a beautiful country all year round, but travelers say the best time to visit is in early spring when rates can drop as much as 20%. The key is to depart after the spring break season.
“Skip the spring-break scene and visit in late April, May, or June, when you and a few other savvy couples will have all those waterfalls, turquoise waters, and talcum-powder beaches to yourselves. May marks the start of mango season, and more than a dozen varieties grow here, making a stop at a roadside stand a must,” write Yolanda Crous and Heidi Mitchell in Brides.
Amsterdam
Many people underestimate the extent of Amsterdam’s beauty, especially during the spring months. The landscape is quick to bloom and blossom during the springtime, and Amsterdam is also known for its breathtaking tulip fields. Grab a bike rental and take a romantic picnic bike ride together, or take a 30-minute drive to do some sightseeing near Keukenhof Park, which boasts more than 7 million bulbs in 800 varieties between the middle of March and the middle of May. Ultimately, a majority (57%) of Americans over age 65, compared with less than half of those aged 18 to 29 (47%), 30 to 44 (46%), and 45 to 64 (49%), make time for regular trips or vacations (Gallup, 2014), but everybody should make time for a trip to Amsterdam at some point in their lives — there are truly countless things to see and do in this destination, also known as the Venice of the North.
Tuscany
If you’re feeling especially cosmopolitan, then don’t forget about the endless sights and attractions in Tuscany, where springtime brings out something special in both the views and the region as a whole.
“Starting with the fireworks on Florence’s Piazza Duomo and moving out into the countryside for parades in Grassina and outdoor markets in Chianti, the whole region around Florence explodes with enthusiasm for what this symbolic fresh start may bring,” write Crous and Mitchell.
Normally it’s a good idea to book your wedding reception site as soon as possible once you’re engaged — at least a year to nine months before the wedding, and the same can be said about your honeymoon planning.
Fort Lauderdale, Florida
Of course, not all of us have the budget to travel to Europe or the Caribbean for our honeymoons! Fortunately, there are plenty of domestic destinations for spring honeymoons. In particular, Travel+Leisure reports that the Fort Lauderdale, Florida is one of the best budget destinations if you’re traveling in April. You don’t have to worry about snowbirds migrating back north, nor do you have to worry about the flocks of tourists heading to theme parks and beaches over the summer.
Your marriage and honeymoon experiences should be some of the most memorable of your entire life, and taking a bit of extra time to perfect the timing is essential to making your experience as special as possible.
