For a long time, many people believed that something futuristic would take over the home. As if it were a relay race, the baton was to be passed from the minimalist style to something even more sophisticated and modern. Yet, the sad old human beings that we are, we said enough of that nonsense, we’re going back to the classics. Now we see more of a maximalism style peering through the surface and designers are quite liking the freedom to layer their style, bringing more depth and originality to the home. So if you are wondering how your home could be blessed with the classic style too, look no further.
Why The Home Is Going Towards The Classic Style?
The thumping sound
One of the reasons why wooden floors have been out for a while, is because they make an awfully loud sound as you walk over them. However, this kind of reminds you of being in a prestigious place, such as a great hall, political building or some kind of large quaint old house. This is why flooring stores are seeing lots of business, as those who want hardwood floors are spoilt for choice. Whether it’s cherry, maple, oak or ash, you can find the right kind of wood with the right style, shape, size and look. With the right kind of oil finish, varnish and coating, you can protect your floor from scratches and malformations.
Layering is back
In every classic home, there is layering. This is whereby you create different heights, different textures and different depths of size, shape and design. This all occurs in each room, so there is a lot to think about. For example, can you have three different types of seating in one space? Sure, you will need to consider who and what kind of person would like a reading chair, who would prefer a sofa and who would like a stool whereby they can sit with their legs stretched. This is something that takes time to perfect. But you will also need to consider various materials like wool, cotton and linen all being in the same place.
Stone kitchen
Somewhere around the kitchen, there must be stone. Look at all classic homes and you will find that the island is made out of marble, the sink is made out of granite and the backsplash is made from quartz. These stones are brilliant for the kitchen because they are dense and heavy, so they won’t react to the hot and cold of the kitchen. Some tiles that are made from clay can crack when exposed to prolonged heat, so stone tiles are perhaps the better choice for your backsplash. Not to mention the sheer number of patterns, designs and textures you have to choose from at your feet.
If you would like a classic style home, then see if you can incorporate any of these features. It takes time but eventually your home will be more stylish, timeless and a joy to be in.
