When it comes to learning, there are so many benefits to putting what you are trying to remember or learn into song. It’s just amazing how much better you can remember things if it is put into a catchy tune. Last year I connected with Steve over at Scratch Garden, and we’ve been big fans of his incredible work ever since. His YouTube Channel uses 3 major learning styles (visual, audio, kinesthetic) to get kids excited about learning English, math. and even art.
Using Music And Songs to Enhance Learning | Scratch Garden
For my two kids, songs are a fantastic tool to use for their young minds because they will remember these things for years to come versus rattling off facts to them. A good example is how Jazzy learned her ABC’s from the songs first then, later on, she was able to recognize the letters by sight. Below are the 3 learning skills that Scratch Garden covers along with some of our favorite videos from the channel.
Audio
Kids love repetition (because how many times have they watched the same movie over and over). What sticks with them with these movies? The songs of course! Increasing memory is also a really great thing that will happen from songs. Your child’s mind is the best right now. They are like little sponges, so keeping it fun and light with songs will definitely make learning fun and increase brain capacity.
Visual
YouTube is one of those platforms you either really love or stay away from. I personally LOVE YouTube for a lot of reasons. One of those reasons is that you can pretty much learn any skills just by watching a video. Scratch Garden videos are so colorful and cute. One of Jazzy’s favorite is the Color song.
Kinesthetic
Another fantastic way that Scratch Garden teaches kids is with movement songs. Movement songs are great for helping with coordination. One song that gets played a lot in our house the Left vs. Right. Check it out with your little ones.
About Scratch Garden
Scratch Garden creates awesome animated videos for young minds. Equal parts
laughing + learning (and a dash of salamanders) are combined with original music in
a variety of styles to make engaging & entertaining educational experiences!
Before kids can even read, we can teach them so many different things about language just through songs. Steve Newberry, the founder of Scratch Garden, got tired of the popular kids’ music on YouTube sounding so lame(!), so he made his own channel with music that adults could also enjoy.
If you are a parent, then you can totally relate lol. I’m so glad I discovered his channel. Scratch Garden has so many fun videos; you will not get bored. There are also tons of different topics such as the water cycle, phonics, counting by twos, and much much more. So no matter what their interest is, there is always something to keep them entertained.
For even more fun videos like the ones I linked above, be sure you subscribe to Scratch Garden’s YouTube channel. You can also follow Scratch Garden on Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter.
