I love cooking. Baking and making deserts on the other hand, is not my forte. Which is fine, we can’t all be awesome at everything (unless you are Chuck Norris).
My son is still a bit young and there isn’t a lot of things he can help me with in the kitchen. So I started to look for recipes that would be both fun (for him) and easy (for me) to make together. Most of them are baked goods. Urrgh! Measuring. Sifting. Teaspoons. Tablespoons. Baking soda? Baking powder? It can be a bit overwhelming (for me anyway).
About two weeks ago, I stumbled upon (which is code for “was on pinterest wasting away”) a banana bread recipe that had me thinking “Say whaaat?!!” One of the ingredient, that it requires had me scratching my head in confusion. Why would I put THAT in a baked good? What’s sorcery is this?! It turned out to be the best banana bread ever (based on my personal biased opinion, that is!)
My sister has been asking me to make some again (it was that good). Since I love her lots and lots, I decided to make it again. The little man requested to help. I got everything ready and once I poured the “Pièce de résistance” into a bowl he was a bit weirded out.
Then we mixed it all in, had a taste test and YUM! What is it you ask? Sour Cream!
Yes how strange right? OK, I can already hear all you seasoned bakers out there! But to ME the rookie, it was strange. I’ve always associated sour cream with tacos! Initially, we planned on making banana bread but we only had muffins tins. So we made muffins! Just as delicious!

The muffins turned out to be delicious! I think even more so because my Little Man helped me make them.

My SIL puts sour cream in like everything, including her banana bread. I thought it was kind of odd at first, too, but everything comes out so good with it.
I do not like bananas at all, but my daughter and husband absolutely love them. I might make some of these for them before all of these bananas start to turn.

Sour cream in baked goods makes them so moist! I hadn’t put it in banana bread before but I am sure it would be delicious.
My must have banana bread ingredient is sour cream. It makes the bread super moist and delicious!
I haven’t heard of putting sour cream in banana bread, but I recall a blueberry cake that my mom made that had sour cream in it. I’ll bet your recipe is super moist and delicious!
Never made anything with sour cream, but I’ve had some muffins with it. They tasted so great!

We rarely make banana bread because I use all the bananas in shakes. I really need to make some, I know my youngest would love some of the muffins you made.
I’ve always heard to use extremely ripe bananas for the best flavor and texture.
My 6 year old has been helping us with cooking in the kitchen mixing pouring string and loves helping. The other day I made cookies while she was at school and when she came home Bella said I am so proud you made cookies with out cookies.
My favorite cookies have sour cream in them. I’m not a giant sour cream fan, but those cookies are the best!

Sour cream does sometimes make a huge difference!! There are several things I can think of right off that are a bazillion times tastier w/it. I’m glad your banana bread came out good. You’ve got a cute helper too. 🙂
Never would have thought of chocolate chips. Walnuts in my banana bread are my favorite.
I don’t get to do much baking anymore but I’ve heard of sour cream as a great alternative to use in some baking to make foods more moist and flavorful. If you use use the low fat version you can reduce calories as well.
Sour cream was in the recipe my mom used way back in the 50s and I am sure it was passed down by her mother. Back then we made our own sour cream. You are right, it makes it taste delicious.

I put sourcream in my lemon blueberry muffins and they turn out amazing. Ok, now I am in the mood for muffins.

I remember when my twins were little they use to think they were doing something when they helped dump ingredients into the mixer. They would make comments like this is going to be the best cake ever. lol… keep up the good work.
