My hair game is not on point at all. I usually just have my hair wrapped up in a scarf to hide the scary. But every once in a while I like to pretty it up a bit. If not in braids (protective styles), I love to straighten my hair temporarily using heat. Today I’m sharing three important tips when straightening your hair. Be sure to read until the end of my review on the heat brush that I’m using.
1. Always wash your hair first before using heat
I actually learned this from my sisters. Using the flat iron or heat brush with dirty hair will damage your hair. Trust me, been there done that.
2. Use a heat protection spray
There is a lot of products out there that you can use. I personally use the Tresemme Heat Defence Styling Spray. If you use a lot of heat in your hair, you definitively want to use a protective spray.
3. Make sure to start with dry hair
This one is optional, but for my Afro-textured hair, I find that when I blow dry my hair before using a flat iron, I have better results.
My review of the pink DROK Brush Hair Straightener
This heat brush is valued at 41.99$ CDN. It comes with a digital LCD display that lets you see and control the heat based on your hair type.
Here’s the thing, even after following my tips, I didn’t get the results that I wanted with this heat brush. I think my hair is just way too kinky for it. My sister also tried this and wasn’t too impressed either.
Now, does this mean it is a complete waste? Maybe not. If you end up trying this brush, please let me know how it worked out for you.
You can go to Amazon to get this brush if you want to try it for yourself. I’m not going to knock this brush. It simply didn’t work on my kinky hair. I wanted to try this brush in my MIL’s hair, but we are not in that kind of relationship lol
Do you use heat to straighten your hair or full lace wigs? You can share your other tips in the comment section. For the days when you don’t want to straighten your hair, check out this hair sponge.

I was sent this hair brush for review purposes. My opinions are mine alone.

You probably just need a flat iron instead of a heat brush. I usually go to the hairdresser to have my hair blown out straight because I also have my hair natural. I don’t do too much heat and prefer protective styles myself. I’ll probably pass on this brush.

This was an interesting read. I’ve always had straight hair, so I never had to straighten it. I had no idea so much went into it.

I use a flat iron and a round brush but lately I have just been letting my hair do it’s own thing. The heat brush looks fun to use and I do suggest some moose when doing hair to add volume.
I used to be a hair stylist apprentice back before I had Bella.
Thanks for sharing about the heat brush I’m going to check it out.

Thank you for your honest review. I have slightly wavy hair so I do not usually use a flat iron or hair straightener. Only during those days when my hair has a mind of its own that I reach out for them. I must remember to use heat protection sprays! (Thanks for the reminder!)

I learned about heat protection spray the hard way as a teenager. I had a cheap flat iron that I used for years without a problem. Then I upgraded to a high end flat iron that got REALLY hot. I was amazed at how quickly it worked (with my old flat iron I had to go over each patch several times and the new one was jus tone swipe each). However, I completely SINGED my hair, I had “fly aways” all over my head because so many hairs were damaged. It was awful. I got online and researched it and went out and bought heat protection spray right away.

Great tips. My hair is thick and wavy and sometimes I would like it a bit straighter than it is. Using a heat protector is so important too.

I’ve never tried a straightening brush before but I might like to in the future. I use a ceramic straight iron at the moment but my hair is already straight, it’s just to even out the ends of my hair.

Using a heat protection spray is so important because straightening your hair with heat can really damage it if you are not careful. I really love Chi products for that.

My daughter is dying to get her hands on one of these brushes. She has inherited my wavy hair that just drives both of us insane, lol.

Girl don’t get me started on straightening hair or we’ll be here all day (I can discuss it chemically or heat for that matter). Hair must always be clean before flat ironing regardless of texture, and heat protection spray is a MUST (my personal fave is CHI) and flat irons work better than the brushes, the brushes tend to work better for thin and fine hair types and anything thicker responds better to a flat iron. Thin/Fine hair must use the lowest heat setting to flat iron and still use a protective spray to avoid damage.
