Today’s post is very personal to me. I’m talking about scars and struggling with body image.
Scars and stuff
When I was little (around 8) I developed a skin rash all over my legs. I had no idea what it was and for a while, I didn’t tell anyone. I just kept on scratching. One day it became so unbearable that I ended up telling dad. He took me to the doctor. I was given a pink lotion of some sort. The itching stopped but I was left with a bunch of tiny scars. The lotion help calmed the itchiness but it dried up my skin so bad. I wish I could say this didn’t shape my life in any way but it did.
Fast forward a couple of years later. I’m at school getting undressed for gym class and suddenly a classmate look at me and say “eww what is that on your legs” pointing at my scars. Ah, kids! So innocent! So brutally honest! So mean! That’s when I stopped getting undressed in front of people. I also started hating gym because it meant I have to wear shorts. Want to know how I got an F in gym class? I kept “forgetting” my gym shorts!
Struggling with body image
I spent a lot of time hiding my legs. Never really enjoying things like swimming. When I got older and everyone was “doing it” I just kept to myself. Not so much because I was pure of heart and innocence but because I was ashamed of how I look naked.
I think a lot of teens goes through the stage of pimples and acne. My skin growing up was horrible. I have scars left over from my early teen and me picking at it (gross).
Even though I’m now in my 30s, I’m still plagued by the monthly blemishes. Ladies, you know the one! That one annoying zit that just sprung out of nowhere right around that time of the month. Mine always shows up around my chin!
Solution For Scars
I’ve always looked for products that will help lessen the appearance of my scars. I’ve tried a lot of things. A lot of the scars have faded over the years. Some products have worked and others didn’t.
I’m currently using a new product called SOS. I’ve been using this religiously for the last few weeks. Which is saying a lot for me! I tend to forget things but this? Not this. I have it set up right next to my laptop. Soon as I come down to work, I take a little bit and rub it over my scars. I’m seeing results so I wanted to share this with you all.
It took me years to finally accept myself and learn to love myself, flaws and all. This will sound real cliché but I do believe becoming a mom helped me a lot in overcoming some of my body image issues.
Do you struggle with body image? What advice would you give to someone going through this? I love to hear from you guys.
You can check out Science Of Skin on their website: SOS
You can also connect with them via Facebook and Twitter. See what everyone else that has tried the product is saying. If you are looking to try a product that will lessen the appearance of scars, definitively give this one a try.

I’ve dealt with the same thing. I still have the marks on my legs. I have been having really bad dark spots on my face and I have been trying to get rid of them. My face always has something going on with it. -_-. I’m so happy you found something that works!

Thanks so much for reading! It was tough growing up with these scars. Although most of it faded I still won’t wear shorts.
Robin Rue (@massholemommy) says
I do, but more in the line of cellulite than scars. I do have some stretch marks, but they pale in comparison to the cellulite on my bum.

I have horrific acne scaring and c-section scars and a few other types of scars. I just own them because I’m old enough not to care any longer of what others think, I’m trying to instill this quality in my daughters early on.

My problem is really my face. I have spots on my face that I sometimes cover with makeup when I’m going out. Even at almost 40 I break out with acne which is crazy and I pick at them too. I know it’s bad but sometimes I just can’t help it. I wonder if this will work for me. I’ll have to check it out.

Body image is a big thing for me and so many of my mums on my Facebook page also don’t like the way they look for many different reasons, wether it be scars, there Weight or stretch marks. To me they beautiful inside and out but it’s hard to see it in yourself, many people say the same to me and I just can’t see it, I can’t see what they see. So glad you have found something that works for you Hun xx

I had to deal with the same thing after I had an eczema break out and I got really insecure with my body. I wouldn’t go down when we had visitors without changing into pants. I was always out wearing pants and leggings all the time and swimming was dreadful for me. I am so glad I am over that phase. It’s really tough, but you just have to let it go and not care about what people would say.

I guess self-acceptance comes in stages..for teenagers its a bit normal to be more conscious about physical appearance, but as we mature we realized that there’s more beyond skin deep 🙂

i have this body image problem before. i have huge brown birthmark behind both of my legs up to my butt + few stretchmarks.. Being a mother and realizing that i dont really care about what other people say, I did it. it was scary people will stare, but thats how life is, we can’t pls everyone. you have to love yourself first. So now i’m wearing mini dresses, wear bikinis and short to gym. now it feels all normal
Lulle says
This is a very moving post! I can relate to the pain of having to change for gym class… My problem was not scars but feeling like I was fat and ugly and everybody was looking! I don’t know if I really have advice for young people going through this, but what I can say is that it gets better. As you mature you start to realize that it’s not all that important and other things matter much more in your life.

Lulle, thank you so much for reading and being able to relate on some level. You are right, as we get older I do feel it gets somewhat better? I think we just stop carring what other people think and we start loving yourself more.
