A few months back, a friend shared her food picture on Instagram. I instantly started craving it! It was a take out plate of some delicious looking Jamaican oxtails with rice and beans!
At the exact moment that I saw that picture, I wanted the food. Now!! Back then, I lived fairly downtown but not close enough to the restaurant she posted a picture of. So to get rid of the cravings, I ended up ordering from another place. Sadly, the food there was not up to par and actually made me sick. Blehhhh
I wasn’t able to get rid of the craving. To make matters worse, I ended up moving in the middle of nowhere, no car and maybe three restaurants in town (ok I’m being dramatic, but you get the point).
I’m currently at my 36 weeks mark and food taste like food now. So I want food. All. The. Time. But unless I cook it, I’m shit out of luck!
The other day I had a weekly doctor check up which happens to be in the city. I made plans to meet up with my sister afterwards for some yummy Korean food. When it comes to Korean food, there’s so many places to choose from in Montreal. We initially picked Manna since its a spot we both love.
But as I’m coming out of the metro station, it hit me! Oxtails!!! I became almost obsessed with the idea of having oxtails. Luckily my sister dear is used to my last minute changes. Plus I’m pregnant, so I get a free pass for randomly changing my mind about what I want to eat!
Of course, I couldn’t remember the name of the restaurant, but I knew it was close by. But thanks to the Internet, a quick Google search revealed the name and location of our oxtails destination! Mango Bay! Bonus, it’s just down the street from where we planned on going initially.
Ok, that’s enough rambling. Here’s what I thought of the place.
I ordered the oxtails for 18$, and my sister had the jerk chicken from the lunch menu. I also ordered some fruit punch cocktail of some sort. And two beef patties.
I haven’t had a beef patty in months, so it tasted delicious to me.
As for the oxtails, you’ve ever had something so delicious that you felt like crying?! Or was it just my pregnancy hormones going crazy?
Well, that’s how I felt eating that plate of delicious oxtails with rice and beans.
Overall it was a great experience. The waitress was friendly. We didn’t have to wait too long for our food.
My only issue was that the food was too small. I mean for 18$ I wanted more rice and those sweet plantains (yum mmm). I thought I would have leftovers for that price, but I ended up gobbling the food down so fast! The idea of paying another 18$ wasn’t appealing so I was left staring sadly at my empty plate.
My sister got the Jerk Chicken
The oxtails! Oh yum!!
Will I go back? Heck yes!
Location: Mango Bay is located at 1202, Bishop
Montreal, Quebec
Quality of the food: I definite 10
Quantity of the food: 6 (blame it on the hungry pregnant woman in me wanting more!)
Menu: Includes a variety of delicious Jamaican cooking
Price: 2.25$ to 20$
So if you are ever in Montreal and craving oxtails, I say head on over to Mango Bay to cure that craving! Or at least tame it for a bit.

As a pregnant woman, too, I can totally empathize with wanting very specific food very quickly. Like – don’t make me wait, at all!! Glad you found just the right meal at the right time – so sorry there wasn’t more! 🙂

Jerk Chicken is my favorite Caribbean dish. I would love to try that. My hubby likes ox tail, so looks like we’d be a good pair at this restaurant.

Sometimes when you crave food, you just have to have it. I once craved sushi so much, I ended up buying some supermarket sushi and it just wasn’t as good as Teppan Fuji’s and I couldn’t stomach it. $18 sounds really expensive for this kind of meal though. I would feel a little disapointed too.
