July Oh July! Where hast thou gone, July?
Even after entering my numbers in my NetworthIQ, I can’t stop smiling. Funny too because July started out SO bad! Which is why I’m calling this post The Summer of Monsters!
July 1st started off with me losing my OPUS card. Yes! 79.99$ Gone in one shot. I still haven’t recovered from that incident (yet). I’m not overly superstitious but I swear to you guys, the morning I lost my card I told myself “Meh, no need to register my Opus card. I won’t lose it!” And guess what? Lost my Opus card! Fear not, my card is registered now!
July was Scentsy Family 10th Annual reunion and guys… IT.WAS.EPIC! It was an experience that I will never forget.
Time to show you my monster. Even though July Networth update looks a whole lot like my very first update, I know that I will be able to catch up!
Net Worth Report for July 2014
My credit card is pretty much maxed out. Curse you delicious St-Louis food!!!
After getting all pumped up from the Scentsy Family reunion, I set a goal for myself. I’m happy to report that I was able to reach that goal and I plan on doing it again this month!
Thank you little man for the awesome coloring!
As always I love to hear from you guys! What are some tips to cure overspending while on vacation?
Come back again next month to read all about the August ‘s Monster.

I love your honesty, you know, I am an over spender myself, I can’t help but want to indulge in my family and have a good time. Life is hard, it’s nice to “treat yourself” and I do. LOL

Good luck with your August Monster! I struggle with vacations as well. Seems like we always overspend when on vacation. Using only cash seems like the best idea … but actually sticking to it is more difficult.

Hmmm tips for not over spending on vaca? Well we totally blew our budget on our trip to the keys. We had a blast and did come back with a few dollars. but, what I was not expecting was the amount of money I spent on tips. I have a part time job and work for tips and I like to tip good people good money. Maybe I shouldn’t have drank so many daiquiris. Maybe then my money wouldn’t have flown out of my pocket. Keep up the budgeting it’s a good practice to live by.

We are going to Disney next weekend and I ALWAYS over-spend while I am there. Even though we go every year, I can’t stop spending more money than I should when I am there.

Well, I overspend when I’m NOT on vacation! lol… And I ever got to go on a real vacation I’d overspend for sure. I think my last real vacation was a trip to Asheville a couple years ago. :O …Wow! Can’t believe it’s been that long. Tips for not overspending??? Hmm…not sure I can help you there lol.

Traveling is my drug! I love going on vacations and while it’s tempting to over-purchase, it does take a lot of discipline on my part to not overspend. I don’t have a credit card so this pretty much works for me.

Vacations always mess my budget too. Trying to stay at hotels that have a kitchenette so we can eat or make sandwiches and have a picnic in a nice park instead of spending $50 in a restaurant are some of the things I do while on vacation to spend less.

The only tip I have is to look up the prices online and make a plan of places you want to go to based on price/ratings ratio? Hubs and I always seem to find good local restaurants for locals that are off the beaten path, where the prices are reasonable.

I’m glad to hear you are milking the success of moving in the right direction. So many people couldn’t see a negative net worth that way, only wanting to count a positive net work as an accomplishment. That attitude rarely leads to improvement before discouragement sets in. I used to celebrate my “less negative” net worth, and now I have a startlingly high positive net worth. I don’t think I would have accomplished that if I’d stayed focused on how far I was from that goal when I started. Well done and keep up the good work. You will get there, step by step.

Try to avoid getting the ‘got to have’ souvenirs while on vacation because they just end on the floor or shoved in a drawer.

I have to say you have a great sense of humor about all of this. When it comes to watching what I spend on vacation, I try to determine what the full amount of play money I have for the trip is and work really hard to keep track of dollars going out. Makes me feel better when I get home knowing I didn’t go crazy but still had tons of fun.

I can’t help myself whenever I go into a store. Even though I don’t need the item I still usually get it. One way I’ve found to help is to not even go in. Harder than I thought it would be but I very rarely go to the mall unless i really, really need something.

To help with overspending I just wait until I have coupons or I will have a garage sale or something to make up for it. For vacations we use groupons and figure out what things are most important to us so we can balance the expenses out!

Great job on reaching your goal and glad you registered your Opus card! We do not vacation so it is impossible to overspend, my issue is antique stores – I can seriously do a lot of damage in those stores.

July went so quickly. cut down on eating out and before you buy something, determine if it’s a need or a want.

I bring all my own food on vacation and cook my meals at the resort. I bring everything from wine, chocolate, and anything I think of that will trigger a crave. I’ve realized the majority of my money is spent on food. Now I just have to figure out how to start extreme couponing LOL 🙂

My tip would be not to go on vacation, LOL. I am not sure, I guess having a daily budget and making sure you stay within the limits. Maybe leave something to reward yourself and family if you stay within the budget when you get back home from vacation.

I actually try not to use my credit cards while I’m on vacation. Instead, I bring the amount of cash I want to spend and try not to go above that amount.

I am constantly eating out and not even on vacation smh but enjoy your vacation and don’t dwell on spending. It will come back.
Alysia says
I take everything out in cash and put each in individual envelopes. When I’m done with the one portion of my spending, either it comes out of another or I just don’t have it to spend. Dealing in cash is a lot easier than having the tempting credit card to fall back on.
