January is a month of new beginnings and resolutions, and amidst all the hustle and bustle, moms often find themselves putting their needs on the back burner. This year, let’s kick off January by focusing on self-care and making it a priority. Here are 20 things moms can do for themselves this month to recharge, rejuvenate, and start the year on a positive note.
Embrace Self-Care: 16 Things Moms Can Do for Themselves in January
1. Create a Vision Board
Take some time to visualize your goals and aspirations for the year ahead. Cut out images and quotes that inspire you, creating a visual representation of what you want to achieve. This year I did my first vision board with the help of the kiddos and love it! My daughter added a trip out of the country, and I really hope I can make that goal come true for her!
2. Indulge in a Good Book
Escape reality by diving into a captivating book. Whether it’s fiction, self-help, or a memoir, losing yourself in a good read can be a great form of relaxation. If you are like me and love buying books at a huge discount, check out my post here, where I share a list of places I order my books from. I also have a discount code from Bookoutlet!
3. Pamper Yourself with a Spa Day at Home
Treat yourself to a spa day without leaving your house. Draw a warm bath, put on a face mask, and enjoy some quiet time to unwind.
4. Learn Something New
Take up a hobby or learn a new skill. Whether it’s painting, cooking, or playing an instrument, discovering something new can be both fun and fulfilling.
5. Declutter and Organize
Spend some time decluttering and organizing your living spaces. A tidy environment can have a positive impact on your mental well-being. I created a list of items that can help keep your space more organized here!
6. Set Realistic Goals
Instead of overwhelming yourself with resolutions, set small, achievable goals for the month. Celebrate the victories, no matter how small. This year, my main goal is to pay off a 16,000 debt so that I can finally breathe! I would also love to take my kids on a trip outside of the province.
7. Yoga or Exercise Routine
Engage in a workout routine, whether it’s a gentle yoga session or a high-intensity workout. Physical activity is not only beneficial for your body but also for your mental health.
8. Journaling
Reflect on your thoughts and experiences by starting a journal. Writing can be a therapeutic way to express emotions and gain clarity.
9. Digital Detox Day
Designate a day to disconnect from your devices. Spend time outdoors, read a physical book, or engage in activities that don’t involve screens. My advice is to pick a whole day and turn off all social media apps for that day.
10. Try a New Recipe
Experiment in the kitchen with a new recipe. Cooking is by far one of my favorite things, especially when I get to try/test out a new (to me) recipe. Cooking can be a creative and rewarding way to spend your time.
11. Plan a Solo Adventure
Whether it’s a day trip to a nearby town or a solo hike in nature, plan an adventure just for yourself. It’s an excellent way to recharge and enjoy some solitude. In November 2023, the team at Netflix Canada invited me to visit Vancouver for a tour of Animal Logic, where the movie Leo was created. If you haven’t watched it yet, I highly recommend it! Such a cute movie! Although it was technically a work-related trip, I went alone and had an amazing time. I got to sleep alone, ordered in-room service, and didn’t have any cleaning to do. It was wonderful!
12. Explore Mindfulness Apps
Download mindfulness apps that offer guided meditations, breathing exercises, and relaxation techniques. Incorporate these into your daily routine for moments of calm.
13. Express Gratitude
Start a gratitude journal and jot down three things you’re thankful for each day. Focusing on the positive aspects of your life can shift your perspective. I’ve been using this popular gratitude journal for a while now and love it!
14. Art and Craft Time
Tap into your creative side with some art and craft projects. Whether it’s painting, drawing, or DIY crafts, expressing yourself creatively can be therapeutic.
15. Dance Party at Home
Put on your favorite music and have a spontaneous dance party in the living room. It’s a great way to lift your spirits and have fun.
16. Plan a Self-Care Routine
Establish a consistent self-care routine that incorporates some of the activities mentioned above. Regular self-care is essential for overall well-being.
Moms, January is the perfect time to prioritize self-care and set the tone for a fulfilling year ahead. Remember, taking care of yourself is not only beneficial for you but also for those around you. So, go ahead and indulge in these activities to nurture your mind, body, and soul. Here’s to a month of self-love and rejuvenation!
