Before I jump into this recipe, I wanted to share some tips.
- You CAN’T omit the spicy sauce!
- When adding the seafood, add the ones that take longer to cook first (I follow this order: Lobster, clams, crab, and shrimp last since they take about 2-3 minutes to cook).
- You can use any potatoes you want, but I find that the small red ones are so tasty!
There are 2 parts to this recipe! First, you will do the boil, and while everything is cooking, you can start the spicy sauce. I found my recipe here but adjusted it to my taste.
What you will need (Keep note that you can skip some of the seafood if you can’t find them or if expensive/out of season in your area:
- King Crab (hard to find in my area, so I usually skip this)
- Crab Legs (hard to find in my area)
- Shrimps
- Mussels or clams (I didn’t add any this time around but always do when I can find some)
- Lobster Tails
- Lemons
- Spicy sausage
- Small potatoes or cut in half depending on size.
- Corn on the cobb (cut in half)
- Eggs
Spices and herbs (Use for both the boil and the spicy sauce)
- Fresh or dry parsley
- Minced garlic
- Italian spice
- Paprika
- Old Bay Seasoning
- Cajun Seasoning
- Chilli Powder
- Crushed Red Pepper
- Seasoning Salt
- Black pepper
- Lemon Pepper seasoning
- Garlic Powder
- Goya Adobo
- Cayenne Pepper
Other
- Brown Sugar
- Cayenne Pepper
- Worcestershire Sauce
- Tabasco Sauce
Must
- Onions
- Fresh Garlic (minced)
- Unsalted Butter
You will need a big stockpot for the boil.
In the pot
- 10-15 cups of water (depending on the size of your pot)
- Add one tablespoon of all the spices mentioned above
- 1 stick of butter
- 1-2 sliced lemon
- 1 diced onion
- 3-4 cloves of garlic
- Bring it all to a boil on medium-high heat
- Add (corn, eggs, potato, sausage)
- When the corn and potatoes are close to being done (about 8-10 minutes of cooking time), add the seafood in this order (lobster, clams, crab, and shrimps)
- Boil for another 5 minutes on high while you make the spicy sauce!
Spicy Sauce
- In a saucepan add 1 stick of unsalted butter and melt on medium-low heat
- Add one or two diced onions – stir frequently
- Add 5-6 cloves minced garlic (or 2-3 tablespoons or more to taste)
- Put one teaspoon of all the spices mentioned above
- Stir to keep from sticking
- Add 1 more stick of butter before adding the rest of your ingredients.
- Add 1 tbsp of brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire Sauce
- One tbsp of Tabasco sauce
- Keep string. Taste and adjust the spiciness to your liking.
- Turn heat off
Remove all your cooked ingredients from the boil and put them in a shallow dish/pan. Remove shelves from the hard-boiled eggs, remove any clams/mussels that didn’t fully open during the cooking time (if you added some).
In a saucepan melt 1 stick of butter, 1 tbsp, and some fresh or dry parsley. Pour the melted butter mixture over the seafood boil. Serve with the spicy sauce and enjoy!
