When my son started kindergarten, I was so unprepared for what was in store for me when it came to lunches. If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you probably have read a few tips and tricks on how I get my kids to eat more fruits and veggies. The fact is, I know many parents have kids that go through a picky eating phase. I’m lucky that my son outgrew his and my daughter slowly but surely starting to come around as well. Below are my tips as well as what nutritional snack option I’m packing for them this year.
Keep introducing new foods.
One of my biggest mistakes with my first child is that if he didn’t like carrots, for example, I didn’t try to give him cucumbers. (Look up reasons why to keep introducing new foods).
Let them see you try the different food items.
Confession, I’m a recovering picky eater. Before meeting my children’s dad, there’s a huge list of foods that I wouldn’t even try. I’m happy to say that that list is minimal now (I will not eat escargot no matter how fancy you make it sound!). My toddler, although picky, will ask to try whatever I’m eating, so it’s a good idea to let your picky eater see you eat a variety of food that is good for them.
