We often think of a sad smile, as something that happens when we are feeling melancholy. However, there is another version, and it’s when there is something wrong with our teeth or mouth. Unfortunately, several things can cause our smiles to be sad. Although, you can find out about how to deal with these in the post below. Something that will allow you to return your smile back to health and normality.
Have You Got A Sad Smile?
Crooked teeth
In this age obsessed with selfies, one thing that can contribute to having a sad smile is crooked and misaligned teeth. Sadly, this is an experience that many of us go through as we grow up. The reason being that our adult teeth can encounter a range of problems, such as overcrowding, wrong positioning, and even not fully coming through at all.
The good news is that there has been a great deal of progress when it comes to orthodontics in the last 10 years. A situation that means even if you have very crooked teeth as an adult, there may be a relatively simple and unobtrusive solution.
In fact, it is often the combination of pain and the issue of having to wear train track braces as an adult that puts many people off having their crooked teeth straightened. However, with things like invisible braces that are virtually undetectable to the naked eye, getting a straighter and a happier smile is viable for a vast range of people.
Yellow or discolored teeth
Sometimes even those with perfectly straight teeth have a sad smile. In fact, one of the reasons for this can be that their teeth are not as white as they would like. Unfortunately, there are quite a few things that can cause a discoloration of the teeth, such as drinking a lot of beverages like coffee and soda.
Additionally, eating a lot of food with a high acid content such as fruit can wear away the initial layer of enamel on the tooth. Something that reveals the lower layer underneath. Of course, one way to deal with such a problem is to make changes to your diet. Thus protecting the first layer on enamel.
Sadly, this won’t be a lot of help for the people that have already lost this layer. Although, there are now whiten treatments that can be done at your dentist’s office or at home that can help return your teeth to a vibrant white and so improve your smile.
Missing teeth
Another major problem that can lead to a sad smile is if you have a tooth missing. In fact, such an issue is usually caused by a cavity that has been left untreated. Something that results in it getting infected. Unfortunately, when there is an infection, the tooth will need to be removed to prevent it from spreading and causing undue pain.
Of course, such treatment will leave you with an unsightly gap that often leads to people being much more self-conscious about their smiles. Happily, some things can be done to rectify this, including being fitted for a false tooth or having an implant put in it.
Unfortunately, many people worry that they are not a suitable candidate for detail implants. Something that is often due to bone loss meaning there is nothing to implant the tooth into. However, a bone grafting specialist can often help with this issue. The reason being they will be able to ascertain whether you are a suitable candidate for a graft. A procedure that will allow you to access all the necessary treatment you need to get your smile back to normal.
Ulcers
Unlike the rest of the issues here, ulcers are not limited to just the teeth. In fact, they often occur in the gums, and on the back of the lips. They can contribute to a sad smile because not only do they look unsightly, but can be incredibly painful when moving any part of the mouth as well. Something that means people suffering from them are very unlikely to smile at all.
Fortunately, ulcers, for the most part, can be easily treated. Usually, by going to your dentist and having them cleaned of the infection. However, it is worth knowing that a bad ulcer has the potential of turning into an abscess if not treated correctly. This being something that can be both particularly painful and very dangerous to your health.
With that in mind, it is imperative to treat any ulcers as quickly as possible. Both for the good of your overall oral health, and to turn your sad smile into a happy one.
