Over the last few days, we’ve experienced record-breaking temperatures. With the combined humidity, the heat wave was pretty intense. The first day of it I already wished for snow. Yes, it was that hot! Today’s post is all about the ways we stayed cool during this crazy heat wave.
How We Stayed Cool During The Heat Wave
I feel that there should be a meme about “surviving the heat wave #heatwave2018” Unfortunately, a few people lost their lives because of it. We were fortunate enough to have an old AC that Demo installed in the bedroom. We all slept in the same room. I made a bed on the ground for Tristan since his bedroom was a furnace.
Popsicle!
I’m not even ashamed to admit that during the heat wave we ate a crazy amount of popsicle! Usually, I would be more than happy to make my own popsicles, but the way this heat was set up, no way was I going to.
Pool, pool, pool!
During the heat wave, we had a lot of pool days. Our pool isn’t heated, so it was quite refreshing. On the third day of the heat wave, the water in the pool was warm, almost hot! Lol, That’s how hot it was here in QC. We now have a code word for when we talk about the pool. We refer to it as the “P.” Weird? Well, not when it’s 9 pm and your toddler hears the word ‘pool’ and starts to chant it. She’s a total mermaid!
No pool? No worries!
As much as Jazzy would LOVE to live in the pool, that’s just not my thing. We did the next best thing, turned on the hose! We don’t have a sprinkler (this one here would be great!!), so we simply turned on the garden hose and let her play. That kept her cool and busy for some time.
We took our reading outside
We only had the AC unit in our bedroom, so we spent a lot of times outside in the shade. I set up the teepee outside so that Jazzy could read one of her new favorite books.
Thank you Tundra Books for gifting us with Fox and Raccoon. The cutest story about two best friends from Juniper Hallow. The book is by Lesley-Anne Green. She creates these adorable felted animals.
You can pick up a copy of Fox and Raccoon for your little ones HERE.
Now that the temperature has gone back to normal, it looks like Demo is coming down with a summer cold. Pray for me, Demo with a cold is like having ten kids with a cold…

Wish we had a pool! We mostly stayed indoors where the A/C was turned on all day. The heat was pretty brutal outside. And yes, lots and lots of ice cream 🙂

We had some ridiculously hot days last week, so hot and humid that it was hard to breathe. On days like that I don’t even leave the house, I stay inside in the a/c.

It sure was HOT. I did not even realize I had so many sweat glands! Haha. Since I babysit for my grandson several times a week, I had to make sure he stayed cool. How we did it was we let him play in his little inflatable pool most of the day. We had ice cream and ice cream cake too.

Such adorable looking kids! We mostly stayed indoors, but I know we run up our power bill because we had the A/C running for days. Hopefully we get to have a break from this hot and humid weather soon!

It’s been sorta “chilly” here for summer. Only in the 70’s. When we have heat waves I’m all about the pool!
