This May marked our 7th year as first-time homeowners and I could not be happier. To celebrate this amazing milestone in my life, I wanted to share 3 things I learned from being a homeowner.
Grateful Sunday: Celebrating 7th Year as First Time Homeowners
It takes time to make it a home, but it’s worth it.
When we bought our home in 2015 we knew we would, later on, want to change things around to make it ours. We did but it was a slow process. If you’ve been following me for a while you might have seen a few of the changes that we did including changing the floors on the main level, DIY the main bathroom, and repainting the entire first and second level (minus one wall that still needs to be repainted).
We also started out with barely any furniture, and lots of empty rooms. Fast forward to 7 years and I have an entire room dedicated to my junk (hehehe). We have a lot more we want to do but we know it will be slow and steady and we’re ok with that.
Expect the unexpected – Better have some savings for it too!
Along with things we wanted to change in our home, we also recently had a few unexpected things that we had to deal with. One of them is our shower door exploding in the middle of the night in November last year. We bought a new door but haven’t installed it yet because we also have to redo the ceiling. That’s one of the home projects that I’m not looking forward to.
Have room to grow.
At the time that we bought our home, we were a family of 3 going on 4. Now we are a family of 5 with the hopes to add one more in the future (after I convince Demo that we are ready for one more lol). We added a wall on the third floor and created a beautiful room for my daughter (which she never sleeps in…). If we do decide to have one more, we have a spare bedroom.
What are you grateful for today?
