Today I want to share a DIY craft that is both fun to do alone (if no kids) or with the little ones. If you have buttons lying around, keep reading to learn how to make this cute DIY hot air balloon button.
Confession time. I have an obsession with buttons. Like this isn’t bad enough, I also have a slight hoarding problem. Which means I have JARS and JARS and even bags of buttons. Multicolored one. Vintage buttons. Pretty buttons. I once posted a picture of my button collection on Facebook and someone asked: “What do you do with all those buttons?”. My response? I just like to look at them in all their pretty buttoness. See? Obsessed!
Anyways, this is a DIY post, not an episode of “my strange addiction”. Without further ado let’s jump right into this diy.
Diy Hot Air Balloon Button
Here’s what you will need for this super easy diy
- Mod Podge
- Card stock paper or canvas
- Pencil to trace
- Print out of an Air Balloon (Just Google “Hot Air Balloon Print out”)
- Scissors
- Brush
- *Buttons. Any colors I suggest you use more than one color. (You can get some at your craft supply store or even the thrift store have some. Amazon has some for really cheap too).
- Glitter (optional)
Step One: You need to print out and cut your picture of the hot air balloon. Trace it onto your cardstock or canvas. Trace it lightly so that it is easier to erase at the end.
Step Two: Pick out the colors you want for your hot air balloon. I went with Pink, white, purple. The Little Man did his multicolored.
Step 3: In a bowl mix some Mod Podge with a little bit of water (makes it easier to spread).
Step 4: Start arranging your buttons on your canvas/stock paper. Put a little bit of glue then a button. Continue until your hot air balloon is completely covered with buttons.
Step 5: Using your brush, cover your buttons with your Mod Podge mixture. Making sure you get it all nicely coated (don’t want those buttons to fall!).
This step is optional but I added a bit of glitter on mine. Once you are done. Let it dry and you are all done!
I really love how it turned out. If you use the stock paper you can cut it to fit into a nice frame and hang it up to display. I plan on using mine in my daughter’s room.
I had such a great time making this craft with my son while my daughter watched lol
